CORRECT DIAGNOSIS:
Cutaneous Collagenous Vasculopathy
DISCUSSION:
Cutaneous collagenous vasculopathy (CCV) is primary cutaneous microangiopathy, first described in 2000 by Salama and Rosenthal.[1] Thus far, 27 cases have been reported in the literature.[2] The entity presents with widespread telangiectasia that is clinically indistinguishable from generalized essential telangiectasia. Histologically, CCV can be distinguished from generalized essential telangiectasia by the presence of dilated thick-walled vessels with depositions of hyaline collagenous material. CCV appears to affect a wide range of ages, including a case report of a pediatric patient, with no gender predilection.[3,4] It is thought to be underdiagnosed since clinically it looks like general essential telangiectasia. Thus far, no associated sequelae have been reported with CCV.
TREATMENT:
Like many other vascular lesions, successful treatment of CCV lesions has been reported with the pulse-dye laser.[5] Other vascular lasers such as the Q-switch Nd:YAG, intense pule light, and argon could potentially be of benefit as well. In this case, the patient did not pursue treatment.
